What is progesterone?

Progesterone is the second key building block, following estrogen, in natural breast augmentation. Its role is to make the breasts bigger during pregnancy, and to decrease them after breastfeeding. In an ordinary menstrual cycle, it is generated by the ovaries starting from the second half of the menstrual cycle (days 14 to 28), as opposed to estrogen, which is generated before ovulation (days 1 to 14).

There are multiple benefits of progesterone for the breasts, which is why we use it in our natural breast augmentation program. We recommend the use of bio-identical progesterone in the form of a transdermal cream, and we will explain why this is the case below.

Nowadays, bio-identical progesterone is used to normalize hormone levels and the menstrual cycle. It is also incredibly effective in preventing spontaneous miscarriages, provided it is administered continuously after conception.

Bio-identical progesterone’s name comes from the fact that it is identical to the natural hormone produced by the ovaries. It is made from elements found in wild yam or soybeans, but it is important to remember that it must be manufactured, and is not found naturally in these products. See our article on this kind of fraud surrounding wild yam.

Bio-identical progesterone is completely different and has nothing to do with Provera, which is made from ammonia and usually prescribed in tablet form.

Synthetic prescribed progesterone, such as Provera or medroxyprogesterone, can cause several heavy side effects, including an increased risk of cancer, abnormal menstrual flow, fluid retention, depression, and possibly an increased risk of heart disease or heart attack.

Side effects because of natural progesterone are extremely rare. The only potential downside is that it may alter the rhythm of the menstrual cycle, if taken in the wrong way at the wrong time.

What does natural progesterone do for the breasts?

As we have seen, progesterone is a natural hormone that is produced by the ovaries during ovulation, and it is also produced in smaller quantities by the adrenal glands. A regulated woman normally produces between 20-30mg of progesterone per day during the second half of her menstrual cycle, referred to as the premenstrual part.

Although menopause usually doesn't occur until around the age of 50 onwards, many women can suffer from hormonal imbalance as early as 30, or even earlier. This decrease in progesterone is significant, because as women get older, their progesterone levels continue to decrease. By the time they reach the age of perimenopause, their progesterone secretion may already have decreased by as much as 75% or even more.

The primary purposes of progesterone:

• Helps convert fat into energy (weight loss)

• Helps prevent or control osteoporosis

• Improves digestion

• Balances out the level of steroid hormones, either neutralizing excesses or ensuring adequate levels of each.

• Facilitates the action of the hormone that regulates the thyroid
• Natural antidepressant

• Natural diuretic

• Acts as a skin moisturizer

• Can increase energy levels

• Balances blood glucose levels

• Restores cell oxygenation levels

• Restores libido

• Increases mental acuity

• Helps in cases of insomnia, and improves sleep

• Regulates levels of certain minerals (zinc/copper)

• Removes any issues regarding blood clotting

• Protects against breast cysts

• Helps prevent breast cancer
• Necessary for the survival of the embryo

• Maintains endometrial secretions

• Stimulates bone regeneration

• Precursor of corticosterone (cortisone)

• By balancing hormones, progesterone regulates the problems caused by estrogen overabundance.

Natural progesterone is very useful in balancing excess estrogen, which can be a major risk factor when it comes to breast cancer. Natural progesterone also dif

fers from estrogen in its malleability, as the body can use it as a precursor or raw material to make other hormones, for example adrenal hormones. It can even turn into estrogen or testosterone, should your body need it.

Natural progesterone is composed of diosgenin, a substance usually extracted from wild yam or soybeans and also found in fenugreek. Although it can be extracted from soy, once this has happened, it becomes a highly purified hormone that no longer contains any trace of soy, which could become problematic as the majority of soybeans available on the market are of GMO origin.

Bio-identical progesterone in the form of a transdermal cream is used to relieve or control:
• symptoms of menopause

• infertility

• loss of bone mass
• premenstrual syndrome

• depression

• headaches

• mood swings

• endometriosis

• fibrous tumors (fibroids)

• hormonal imbalances

• problems related to hysterectomy

• fatigue

• hirsutism (facial hair)

• problems with the menstrual cycle

• hypothyroidism

• digestion

• breast cysts
• water retention
• hypertension

Estrogenic dominance

In developed countries, estrogenic dominance is the norm. That is, the unbalanced presence of the hormone estrogen (as we know, estrogen is the opposite of progesterone). This situation exposes women to many symptoms, and there are multiple complications.

To minimize your risk of developing cancer, it is very important to remember that you should never take estrogen supplements without also taking natural progesterone. Notice that I use the term "natural" progesterone, or the real hormone. Synthetic versions, such as Provera, increase the risk of developing cancer or heart disease.

Furthermore, it is important to know that estrogen-based breast enlargement products will not work on an estrogen-dominant woman. It is advisable to use bio-identical progesterone to restore the hormonal balance that was artificially created by taking these commercial products.

Effects of excess estrogen:

Induces mammary cysts
Increases storage of fat
Water retention
Depression and headaches
Disrupts thyroid hormones
Increases blood clotting and risk of heart attack and stroke
Decreases libido
Impacts control of blood sugar
Leads to zinc loss and copper retention
Reduces oxygen levels in all cells
Increases the risk of endometrial cancer
Increases the risk of breast cancer
Responsible for slightly reducing bone loss

Effects of progesterone use:

Protects against mammary cysts
Promotes the use body fat as an energy source and prevents it from being stored on the hips
Natural diuretic
Natural antidepressant
Promotes the action of thyroid hormones
Normalizes blood clotting
Increases libido
Normalizes blood sugar levels
Regulates levels of zinc and copper
Restores cellular oxygen levels
Works to prevent endometrial cancer
Works to prevent breast cancer
Increases bone construction

Progesterone can therefore also be used for weight loss when combined with magnesium. Magnesium with vitamin B6 helps the liver to regulate excesses of estrogen. (More details on our supplementary article about estrogen).

In an artificial form, progesterone is one of the main ingredients in the birth control pill. This is the reason why some women may occasionally see some level of breast augmentation when taking pills with a high progesterone level.

The contraceptive pill works by making the body believe that it is pregnant and it therefore doesn’t produce an egg. Unfortunately, the synthetic progesterone offered by the pharmaceutical industry, created from ammonia, causes side effects that the natural equivalent does not.

In Canada, despite what is indicated on packages containing yam or soya, you cannot get hold of progesterone cream without a prescription, and those that are prescribed are artificial unless they’re specifically prepared in certain specialty pharmacies (Pearson and Alter Pharmacy). Fortunately, we can still import them from the United States where the creams are available without a prescription, as is also the case in France and probably every other country.

Here are a few websites:

biovea.com
https://www.boutiqueantiage.com/
The last address is in Quebec and offers to import for you products from the United States. It offers a spray product that looks useful.

Progesterone cream is used through the skin, ideally in areas where skin is thin and
fat is scarce. Forearms or inner thighs are usually used. The breasts may not be a good place for use because of the fatty tissue that surrounds them.

If you were to take progesterone over the course of many months, it would be a good idea to take it vaginally since the body ends up storing this hormone in fat reserves, and therefore the effects eventually diminish. Pay attention to the list of ingredients in this case, as not all bio-identical progesterone is suitable for this kind of use.

During the program, as mentioned above, progesterone is only used between the post-ovulation period and the start of menstruation, approximately 12 days per month, throughout a period of 4 months.

Throughout the program, as we said before, progesterone is only used during the period between ovulation and menstruation (days 14 to 28 of the menstrual cycle). Cream is used with a dose of 22mg per day. As such, progesterone cream is only used approximately 12 days per month. One bottle is normally more than enough for the full 4 month program. A 22mg daily dose is not a particularly high amount. For comparison, a pregnant woman produces 350mg per day.

The purpose of adding bio-identical progesterone to the program is to regulate your hormonal cycle. The amount is actually not the most important factor, but rather it is the timing of the hormone intake that counts. As such, you should always take progesterone on the indicated days. The combination of progesterone and estrogen makes it possible to maintain the gains in size resulting from the growth that occurs during the first few months of the program.

The primary function of progesterone is to balance out the body's excess estrogen. It is well known that too much estrogen is responsible for a wide array of issues, and can be blamed for several cancers. This is why, in hormone therapy for women in menopause, Doctors always prescribe both hormones together. A situation whereby estrogen content is too high is known as estrogen or estrogenic dominance.

Why choose progesterone cream over tablets?

If the digestive system was directly connected to the reproductive system and the ovaries, there would be no need to ask this question. Unfortunately, the active ingredients in the tablets need to pass through the digestive system in order to reach the bloodstream. In this journey, they meet the liver, which decreases their effect by 80 to 85%. This figure varies in line with several factors, such as the time of day or what you’ve recently eaten. It is therefore difficult to keep track of the hormones that did what they were supposed to do when using the tablet approach. Transdermal cream does not have this problem, which is why we recommend it above any other approach. We know exactly how many active elements succeed in their task. It is also advisable to opt for bottles equipped with a pump, in order to measure exactly the amount of hormone used.
